D-Owl from the Blog has setup an email address and I belive is taking the Bull by the horns on this movement. Should you have any questions please direct to this email address. thefaushovel@yahoo.com both emails will work...i set up the other one, and the board, and have requested our very own Bytor, and D-Owl to tag team the board moderation (Bytor and D-Owl) and logistical measures such as fundraising coordination, collection, purchasing etc (D-Owl and or both he and Bytor) regardless of who does what, this a is great thing everyone is pushing... reach D-Owl @ either address below... i signed the other e-mail over to him... thefaushovel@yahoo.com or fauredshovel@yahoo.com if anyone wants to join the group, please provide your e-mail address to either of these mailboxes, and subject line "request for invitation to fauredshovel group" thanks all!! As far as fund raising goes, this is very important!!!! You may have to ask Angelos, or someone with the university to set up a fund to receive these "donations". I would highly recommend that you consult a professional personally before you start soliciting money on the internet.I am an accountant and used to be a tax accountant. Receiving donations/funds from requests on the internet could cause problems unless you handle it correctly. If you receive money from a few individuals you know personally to split the cost of something, no big deal. This could turnout to be a big thing from many many alumni all over the country. It wouldn't hurt to consult with someone first!!!!! We don't need any new headlines in the Sun Sentinal and Palm Beach Post if this isn't done right. The alumni association might work with you on this as far as receiving the money. Is Armand Grossman still involved with the alumni association? Still, talk with someone first!!

I think at the moment its still small enough to not be a concern, however it could grow as you stated. I think Manx and D-Owl are aware of that. Unfortunately, the time crunch is on, and I doubt that a Escrow or other legal protection could be put in place for this particular effort. As you said perhaps the alumni association has this in place already? That could be an option.

that's probably the best idea, Alumni Association. mail a check with a "Red Shovel" in the memo.

Hey all,
We may of hit a critical stumbling block. I talked to Lockhart Security and the say we MUST coordinate with Dexter Lamont or Shawn Todd at FAU to see if the Shovels will be allowed in as NOTHING that could be used as a "harmful object against another fan" will be allowed in. The person seemed to think that the shovel would qualify as that.
I believe someone mentioned they had a contact for Dexter? We apparently NEED to have him involved to get this thru.

Shovels will not be allowd in from the people I have talked to, so we do need to re-evaluate this. As far as donations, I will not have time to register a group in time, but there is a group that we might be able to work with us on this, hoping to have that settled tomorrow - the group is associated with the Alumni's office.

I think the movement may be dying. I offered up a free website and was told it wasn't important. Doesn't sound like much movement. www.TheRedShovel.com

Please, Manx may not fully understand it's use and concept. Please do not let one speak for all, and no I a not saying what his intentions were or weren't. I liked it a lot, was looking forward to seeing what we could do with it. Hope you reconsider it, hell we will have an open forum discussion on it if needed. I think most people will like it.
Just to let everyone know, I will smuggle my shovel (all 10 maybe 11 inches of it) in, if I have to. Then it will be a real grass roots movement !!
I will not crumble, in fact, I will soar !! Who said it ?

You're right. He doesn't speak for all. I will leave it out there for a while and see what happens.
I think a little bit of panic is setting in because the original plan has some issues, but I think they need to stick with it and not try to dilute what they are trying to do just to get it done for the first game.
Those plastic shovels should be allowed. They need to slow down and go through the proper channels and get some things approved.
It goes back to my original points about this whole issue...if you don't market it properly, its just a few guys walking around with shovels and it means nothing.

It goes back to my original points about this whole issue...if you don't market it properly, its just a few guys walking around with shovels and it means nothing. agree... Reality: anytime anyone wants to do something prodcutive an positive in the "world" it is always met with critisism and an attempt to de-rail, control, and or abort it all together...just ask Howard about the rediculous opposition that was put up by FACULTY at FAU prior to football getting the nod from Tallahassee... Our situation: Respectfully, it is not wise to try and place unneccessary "contorl" points (accounts, auditing, etc) on a group of PRIVATE US CITIZENS who want to organize under a common cause and make a "purchase" collaberatively...again, respectfully, that is totally unnecessary... we have not infirnged on any NCAA "rules"...no players, or even staff are involved...if it does get attention from staff, then they will assume the "liability"...until then it is a mute point... Lockhart: since when can you not have an 11" pice of plastic called a "shovel" into the facility? the hand clappers are equitable as a risk to bodily harm - this is certain...what about the plastic beer bottles? oh boy, those are a weapon for sure! NOT... there is only a clause for umbrellas, and they can do alot more harm than a plastic 11" "shovel" could ever do...btw, the clause isnt for "protection from bodily harm risk"...it is protect the VEIWING rights of all fans...ponchos dont block the person behind from seeing the game...i asked about this - its a fact... they sell HELMETS at the game...full sized HELMETS...is that a risk? i think you get the point...and the point is this: this is a good idea...dont let "negativism" and "fear" enter the equation...they are designed to do one thing, and that is kill, steal and in this case, DESTROY a perfectlly valid and meaningful wave of opptimism and support... 11" plastic red shovels cause for rule breaking and bodily harm risk? cmon....... last note: i e-mailed Dexter laMont and cc'd Craig Angelos today on this entire matter...perhaps the admin will jump in and produce a "sponsor"...who knows...they are aware of the blogs, the fan committment, and the general long term idea of this movement... I for one Hope it contniues into one; a long term iconic symbol of committment, rivalry, and support...

The idea doesn't have to die because of the shovel not being allowed in - the message behind the shovel should be the strongest point and the most important. If a strong enough voice exist there could be an overrule on the matter, but at this point timing is very critical.
I do think that something can be done and the shovel could still be used effectively regardless.

I totally agree, Bytor.
It's the giving up part that goes against what I had come to believe the shovel stood for.

So am I right, the Schools Gods @ FAU have said no to the shovels ? Nothing else, not the NCAA, not Lockhart, just the people we are upset at. They are causing yet another delay in the advancement of FAU Athletics. Who specifically is it ?
