I don't know whose name is what. A few of the guys are using their real name ( I guess) on the blog and not here so I don't know who is doing what.
Is there anyone left to work this project. Is it now in the hands of the athletic dept?
If it is not, who is going to tell Howard Schnellenberger that those who started it lost interest any why?

Does FAU have any fans who are not students or alumni?
I ask only because the fan meter page gives no other option. How much thought goes into these otherwise good projects?

That is not accurate info people. D-Owl is the one who came up with the idea's, and is heading/running it. There are two individuals who have apparently had a difference of opinion. They were both involved in this movement as are many others. They have, decided to take a timeout, a break if one will. I hope they both realize any personal issues are not what this cause needs or endorses.
The movement is very much alive, and you can come out and see for your self's at the Fan Fest on Saturday. We do need all your support. I see quite a few of you on here who have made no comment or take any position on the shovel movement. If you don't know, or are not sure what's what, just ask and I know a few on here who are in the loop, so don't be shy. Just polite, and speak intelligently please !!!
And NO this will never be left in the hands of anybody other than D-Owl & Co, there will be a post on Teds blog in the morning for all to read. That's about it for now as far as I have heard.
So look for your shovels at the Fan Fest Saturday, they will be there.
GOooooooooooooooooooo Owlssssssssssss !!!

...you can come out and see for your self's at the Fan Fest on Saturday. Speaking of FanFest, I can't make it because I have to go out of town... is somebody going to take pictures...? That can hopefully post some on here...? I'd really appreciate it.

There's always something awry. For instance, the FAU billboard on I-95 is facing northbound but on the other side of the road (the east side) so you really have to be looking for it to see it. It should be on the west side, to your right... but perhaps the advertising company they consulted with said "This is the only one in Delray" or "This was the only one in your price range" and they figured that one was better than nothing. Still cool to see.

I'm up here 1500 miles away and don't know any or have met any of this board's members. I wasn't sure who was still working this project. When I saw the bickering, my hopes that something really good for the program was not going to move ahead. I'm glad it is and you have my full support. What ever I can do from 1500 miles away.

There are still people working on the project, things are moving forward.
The colors was changed from Red to Blue at the request made directly by Schnellenberger - So, Blue will be the primary color with red being a secondary, much like the school colors.
There was one individual who did not think that progress was being made. There are things that cannot be made public as of yet (he was pushing for all of this to be revaled & more), since athletics is provide resources to help the movement we do have to get somethings cleared first - verbase on any flyers to be released, etc.. these things do take time, plus all involved do hold day jobs.
There ar eother matters that will happen after Sept. 17 that will be then be revealed at that time.
The big push right now is getting ready for Sept 1st, the home opener. Getting as many shovels and flyers ready remains the main goal.

I thought I could make it back home for the opener and join in on the shovel movement, unfortunately things changed today and looks like this will be the first home game I have ever missed of FAU football

D-Owl has put out an update as follows - also on Teds blog
Yes Owl Country, it's just 7 days to MTSU !!! Go Owls ! It's time for a shovel update Owls Fans. Well we met our initial goal, and have 2000 shovels coming for the MTSU game. We were hoping to be able to get 5000 shovels, but fell short of that mark. When we met with the FAU Athletic department (as per their request), they asked us to get shovels with just one color, red. Then we were informed that Blue is Schnellys preferred color, and since this is his program we decided that Blue is the color we would go with. They (FAU) advised us about the schools vendors, and that they could get this done for us quickly and in the style and color we needed, they also wanted to see about getting the FAU logo in-printed in the shovels. So I went through their entire list, called everybody and found that nobody could help us. So I had to go and find the shovel on my own. I searched the net, and called them all. I found a U.S. Manufacturer who could get this done for us, but that we had to have an order for at least 5000 shovels. So we approached the FAU Athletic department for assistance, since we were asked by them to accommodate their wishes, on shovel color and style. We had a second meeting and they stated that they had no (0), money to contribute to this. They then attempted to persuade us to hold off on any shovels for the Seasons Home Opener on 9/1 against MTSU. As they wanted us to wait until the 10/6 game against USF. So I had to ask a few questions. If we waited (5 weeks) as per their request, would they be helping us in purchasing the 5000 shovels, again the answer was a quick NO. So I had to choose between hoping we could raise enough money to get this done on our own and forgo the MTSU game, or "Just Do It" as we planned. I had a hard time with this as I have a son playing for Schnelly and my true identity was now known by everybody associated in anyway with FAU and the Football Program. Was there any chance that my efforts could hurt my son, his scholarship, his future with the Owls in anyway. I/he could get burned either way I did it. If I go against the Athletic Departments wishes what will happen. If I go along with them and wait for 10/6 as they want, but we don't raise enough money to purchase the minimum 5000 shovels, we could be half way through the season with never getting our message out there. Thus I would look like a fool, letting everybody down, and have Owl Egg all over my (and my sons) face. I even came up with a way to generate additional money by making a Red and Blue Owl Shovel for the Fan Fest. Asking for a $50. donation and in return they would get a shovel (red or blue) of their choice (as can be seen on Ted's blog about the Fan Fest). I got the OK and took orders ( I even have an order from one of the B.O.T. board members), and then afterwards I was then told no they would not process those funds we received. So even though I came up with a way to make it happen (as FAU has no ideas other than mine), I was back at square one. So I had to make a quick decision as our time was running out. I choose to go with the 2000 multi colored shovel pack, as per our original plan. I called and advised the FAU Athletic Department, and as per my fears met up with much resistance, but I insisted and they finally agreed to release the funds that we generated, and the order was placed and paid for. So now we have 2000 shovels coming, no not exactly what we could have had, but our message is going out as planned. Now what we need to do is turn these 2000 shovels into the 5000 shovels we want for the USF game. So I have come up with yet another idea, lets distribute the 2000 shovels and ask for a couple of dollars in donations, so we can get the style (spade style) and color (Owl Blue) shovels, that everybody wants (but can not help with funding). So if we get $2. a shovel we will have $4000. which would put us close to our 5000 shovel goal. If we can get more, than we will have more $. We will be in Rally Alley, and hopefully with the help of the other groups, entities at FAU (Prowlers, Rowdies, Cheerleaders Etc...) we can/should be able to get this done. We should have a table and tent as we did at the Fan Fest. So please be looking for us, and please bring a couple of extra dollars for our mutual cause. Showing our support for our Owls Football Program, and the need for a On-Campus Stadium. I promise you, the two dollars or so that you spend will bring you as much fun and satisfaction as any Two dollars you have ever spent. You will be a part of making Owl History. This is a true 100% Fan based and backed/funded movement/statement. Please let me hear from all of you, here on the blog, or send me "D-Owl" an e-mail @ thefaushovel@yahoo.com - let's make this the year we the fans got off our backsides and took matters into our own hands. Let Ted and those in charge at FAU hear our "Voices". Thanks, D-Owl

I've got to hand it to this guy. Nice job getting something accomplished against what is clearly a bureaucracy stuck in the muck.
It's bad enough that sports marketing lacks imagination and direction. Now, when the fans get something going, they get slapped back.
Very disappointing, yet I am happy to see the effort move forward anyway.
