There are more than enough fans from Miami to palm beach to support both FAU, FIU and Miami. There are plenty of people, but South Florida fans are extremely fickle. Also, a large number graduated from UM, UF, FSU, or some school in the Northeast so they would rather watch their teams on TV than attend an FAU or FIU game. This doesn't mean that FAU and FIU won't continue to develop as programs and expand their respective fan bases, it simply means that it might be more difficult than in other places. Bottom line is that the stadium will help and hopefully the innovation village will also peak peoples curiousity about the program and FAU as a whole. GO OWLS!!!

Agreed that a lot of people down here are Gators at least. When they won the football championship, they all came out of the woodwork and you could see it first and foremost on their cars. There are a lot of steps between where we are and where they are, of course. It's not just the football team becoming a national competitor, but it's also about the Alumni Association being extremely visible, marketing being louder and inescapable, much much more housing being placed on campus so it feels less like a commuter university and more like a residential university that people should invest themselves in, etc.

We're building all of these things because we have a huge enrollment and an AD with a vision.
Going beyond just the village, we also just built a new alumni center, a new engineering building, and are about to build a high rise apartment complex across the main road.
We're building our football stadium because our fan support is growing tremendously, and with an ON CAMPUS stadium and thousands of students within 5 mins......we'll pack it regularly. Season tickets are already being sold at a fast pace and most booster sections are already sold out in the new stadium.
But, the real jewel will be our new arena. It will be state of the art and probably the best in Florida.

We're building all of these things because we have a huge enrollment and an AD with a vision. Well, it's always nice to have a Director of Athletics with some vision. Going beyond just the village, we also just built a new alumni center, a new engineering building, and are about to build a high rise apartment complex across the main road. Excellent. Our universities really run in tandem, don't they? We're building the EXACT SAME things (alumni, engineering bldg, apartments) on-campus. It's really strange and cool at the same time. We're building our football stadium because our fan support is growing tremendously, and with an ON CAMPUS stadium and thousands of students within 5 mins......we'll pack it regularly. Season tickets are already being sold at a fast pace and most booster sections are already sold out in the new stadium. You also have 4500+ students on campus looking for things to do, something that currently cripples us -- until 2008. Once our stadium and Greek Housing is in place (next couple of years), I have a feeling like our two universities are going to be fighting for the same students. But, the real jewel will be our new arena. It will be state of the art and probably the best in Florida. Good, now go to UF and shut them down. We'll cheer you on from Boca.

The bottom line here folks is people with big VISION have led the way and charge for them...not to mention better enrollment numbers to fuel it...but that plays a aprt in the recruiting efforts they carry out to win head to head battles for students...we havent really had that, and have ALWAYS settled for less than the Bigs...now that we have it, we are basically playing "catch up" ball...USF was committed to building first rate athletics with the money to back it long before we were...we have always just "talked" - as we are doing right now in the BOT...and once again it is spanking our rears...
on thing of note is that they dont just do it with athletics, its all around - even the colleges they have in place - again, ahead of us...
Hopefully now that we have Brogan - who is a visionary and not just an architect/urban planner (catanese the car jacker), and Angelos (a true administrator rather than cargill who played golf all day, was hardly around, and never even heald a staff meeting) we will get it going...if we can shed a few lame board members that is to say...im not trying to be negative here, just being objective...history does speak for itself...and that is that we are behiund and need some serious game plan to catch up and win the freshman battle - what trully drives the numbers.......

Just as a glimpse into what will hopefully be our future in a year or so... UCF just put up a new photo tour of their stadium, innovation village, arena, apartments, etc. Altogether it's 179 pictures, about half of which are construction pictures. ucfathletics.cstv.com/genrel/061607aac.htmlIn front of the football stadium, they're also putting in a statue of a knight on a horse (conceptual clay model below): www.fp.ucf.edu/images/ProjectPhotos/Stadium/horse3.jpgI wonder if FAU has considered something like that for our stadium as well, although I doubt it because FAU does everything at the bare minimum and then acts surprised when students aren't impressed.

I am sure that at some point FAU will have a statue of Schnellenberger. The question is "With pipe or without??"
GO OWLS!!!

The longer this process seems to be going on with no real direction and until a final approval is made, there is truely no direction for the program and IMO is causing Angelos to be fustrated and bewildered a bit. His answers just aren't as clear as they use to be We need some positive news from the BoT meeting in Sept. - someone needs to step-up and hit a home run for the team.

Several of us on here have been saying this for a couple of years and until they show something different I will continue to believe this BOT is nothing but "Smoke and Mirrors". I can't imagine the frustration Angelos and Coach are going through. I was very very optimistic about this project and as it slowly turned into a talking head. You could begin to see the hand writing on the wall. I agree with your post Bytor and I also think if nothing happens in September it is going to cause a lot of turmoil. I hope someone steps up and puts a foot in someones butt.
I have a lot of hope in Angelos as the one to find a way to get it done. The BOT tied this to the Village, typical political move, when you don't want something, tie it to a monster and they will both take for ever to get done or die.
Shame on the BOT for being so narrow minded and disrespectful to the students and Alumni that they are this naive to believe they are doing everything they can. It is almost like they are hoping this whole thing will go away and the longer they can prolong it the better. If thats not true then do something and stop talking about it.
Its time for Brogan to put the gloves on, actually, take them off it hurts more and take action.
Maybe we should mail they board a couple of shovels just in case they forgot what they look like and make a statement that it's time.
