This truly is great looking stuff. The wait will be difficult, but worth it. In the interim, though, I agree with other posters. The high school stadium is, or at least should be, out of the question. Pro Player is distant and expensive. The Orange Bowl is even more distant and probably equally expensive. Is anyone trying to negotiate with Broward County to prevent Lockhart from going to the gallows too soon?

grayowl I'm pretty sure that has more to do with negotiations with the Orioles at this point then with Lauderdale. The baseball team has been screaming for a new home or they would leave. That is one reason I get upset with this moving forward at a snails pace. Especially when you know it can be done much much faster

if they leave, it helps our cause...it would be embarassing to FAU to have to play at a venue less than the caliber of Lockhart...they would hev to move the imtline up ...and probably go back to Pro Player...Dolphin Stadium...Joe Robby...whatever it is called today

Bmarkey, these are the three stadium plans that where part of the presentation to the Bot this past Tues. as part of the Innovation Village.
Talon, I have heard that Lockhart may still be standing by 2008,09. If that is not the case then I would envision that Dolphin Stadium would be the only option.
I know most if us are disappointed with the time line involved, but the fact that a Stadium is in the near future is still a positive for the program. I would urge everyone to E-mail their displeasures to Brogans office if that helps you vent some fustration.
IMO, I don't get the BoT reference to the cost of the Dome & Innovation Village as being to expensive, when KUD was willing to take all the financial risk as long as the revenues show that they would recover their debt. Again a no-brainer if you ask me.
The Dome Stadium may have been a bigger venue that we needed, but with time could have grow into, the revenue that it would or could have produce just made sense. The only down size to the Dome was the extended time line of 2013, so in essence the phased open air stadium was an effort to get a stadium on campus sooner rather then later, which is all we all want. The way I look at it, we will be spending our tenth year of football christening our new on campus stadium and should make for one hell of a opening day celebration.

Bytor....Is it possible to put a count down clock onto this site? It might help to show that it is no longer a dream.

Not a bad idea, I will have to look into the possibility of doing that.

Here is the Article by President Brogan on the Innovation Village, printed in the Sun-Sentinel, posted on Nov. 13, 2006:
`Village' part of strategy
By Frank T. Brogan Posted November 13 2006
Recent articles in the South Florida Sun-Sentinel on the proposal to build a stadium complex on Florida Atlantic University's Boca Raton campus have focused primarily on its anticipated use as a sports venue, but in actuality the purpose of the project -- called Innovation Village -- is much broader in scope.
FAU's top priority is the expansion of its academic programs to bring an ever-increasing number of higher education opportunities within the reach of both traditional and nontraditional students. To assure access throughout FAU's very large service area, the university has established seven strategically located campuses that offer a comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate degree programs to students of all ages.
Serving more students of traditional college age has become an important part of the mission of the Boca Raton campus, and we have met with considerable success. Now, in accordance with the university's strategic plan, we are working to make FAU a "first-choice" institution for even more students who seek the traditional American college experience.
Achieving this goal hinges on our ability to enhance the quality of campus life in ways that are especially attractive to this age group. This is the primary motivating force behind the proposal to add Innovation Village to FAU's Boca Raton facilities.
Every traditional university has a campus hub, where friendships are forged and memories are made. The Innovation Village complex, which would include student housing and retail space as well as athletic facilities, would provide just such a hub for FAU, quickly becoming a gathering place for students, alumni, faculty and staff as well as visitors.
Major, long-term benefits to the university are expected to include substantial improvement of our freshman retention and overall graduation rates, more successful recruitment of top-flight students, faculty and staff, and enhancement of the university's economic development capability and visibility throughout its service area. All of this adds up to a stronger, better university for students of all ages, thus supporting FAU's core mission of bringing high quality academic programs to the people of South Florida.
Frank T. Brogan is the president of Florida Atlantic University.

It is the dome so it is probably for basketball since the dome was planned as a multi-use facility.
