Looks like they have finally started on the seating area. They have started to dismantle the bleachers on the non-student side, and have taken down two scoreboards.

It concerns me that it's halfway through August, they're supposed to be done in October, and they still haven't knocked down the northern wall to work on the "bowl"... what "bowl"? The north side will now have chairback seating so there will be seating on all four sides, or what's commonly called a "bowl".

I know for a fact I saw press releases months ago maybe a year ago that stated the burrow would have seating upgraded to 7500. I have not seen that stat since. They would have to move walls to make that kind of room.

See "Ask The AD With Craig Angelos, April 11th, 2007" Question from Justin In regards to the basketball stadium, will there be seating behind both baskets? On TV it makes a huge difference... Response from Athletics Director Craig Angleos With regard to seating in the new arena, we will have chair back seating behind both baskets so it will be enclosed in a bowl. In fact, we will have chair back seating throughout the whole arena with exception of the east side bleachers which will be for the student section hopefully to stand up and make a lot of noise throughout the games" The problem with this, of course, is ...which is a picture posted on the Arena Construction Gallery on August 13th (yesterday)

That doesn't make any sense though. They just put down the new floor and now they are going to knock out a wall and expose it to the weather outside.
There must have been a change of plans.

Im guessing that they are not removing that wall. That would be major construction. Maybe removable seating on that side behind the basket. Most big arenas have blocks of chairbacks that can be removed to reconfigure for concerts...and in this case graduations.

They won't knock down the wall until the outer wall is up.

I don't think the wall will come down. For starters, on the other side of that wall is storage and a huge A/C unit. I'm pretty sure that the new seating on the north and south would be retractable in the lower bowl. There is more room behind the basket on the north end then the south I think and I know the south wall isn't moving anywhere.

Nice!....We are actually beginning to make some progress. Does anyone know how many more people the new arena will seat when it is complete?

There are a few more pictures now posted. Not sure why they are so quick with the updated photos after so few the last couple of weeks, but I hope they keep it up. I love seeing the progress being made.

7500? I think there were 5000 seats before and they are going to add 2500 (half the existing capacity)? Where? Number 1, they don't need 7500, and number 2, not sure where they would find the room. Maybe each seat only gets room for one butt cheek ;D
