Thanks, KC, for addressing the issues regarding attendance. You made some excellent points. I am discouraged that the voice of the most successful athletic program in FAU history has his ideas fall on deaf ears. FAU claims they have no marketing dollars but some of your ideas require very little dollars, yet nothing is done. There is no excuse for that.

There is no excuse for that. coach is spot on...the season he eluded to in his post was done with very LITTLE money and some simple hands to the plow, grass roots marketing...i had a staff of students who did simple things like putting up fliers in clasrooms on a regularly, and consistently scheduled basis, organizing BBQs where SG spirit and entertainment would foot the bill - thereby defering costs to the department...and even getting out into the community with comp tickets that the sponsors would foot the minimum NCAA bill ($1 at the time) for in a bulk buy...simply take them to eatery's and send folks away with the tickets...its that simple, but it definitley doesnt seem to be getting done at all...not to mention perhaps his most crucial point regarding the little leaguers and community involvement...that was paramount for involvement...i have taken in a few games this and last season, and dont see it anymore...gte some one on the phone, making simple calls (again, because people simply dont know) have someone underwrite the ticketing fees and get them to the games...thereby planting seed that will bear fruit for some time to come and encourage healthy community bonds...what does that cost? NOT MUCH: "Hey, student, you want to be a part of a successful sports prgram here at FAU right? You want to get some good resume experience correct? Good, well here is an hourly job with a decent wage given your experience level...just make some phone calls to all local coaches and invite them to come out in uniform to take in a game, and be the liason for all correspondance and logistical needs...tell them we will provide the tickets at little or no cost them...btw, also tell them thier players can run out on the field with ours when they are announced." DONE DEAL...an extra 50+ fans per team, because mom, dad, and the grandparents are all coming to watch little Johnny take his place with the Owls... the second "problem" i see (and this is in all sports) is the lack of the critical relationship infrastructure needed with our marketing and promotions staff/administration, and SG and other student organizations such as the Greeks, and housing...those relationships, even judging by other sports such as basketball seem to have seriously been neglected...and not to change topic, but rather illustrate, no one in the department should take any credit for last seasons mens basketball showing, that was completely student organized...and i just use it to make a point... you have to get to meetings the students hold...engage them...make it alive and real...because, again, half the time, they simply dont know whats going on - and would love to have a healthy place to spend THEIR budget(s)...we did it time and time again... lastly, you have got to have one person who is completely dedicated to baseball...we had one usually, and in hindsight, it should have probably been more given the success that took place...bottom line, you have to go with whats winning - baseball always has... and the baseball isnt as popluar argument doesn hold water with me...because, as he mentioned, there were consistent times of 750 - 1,000 fans to the park...what was the mens basketball attendance last year? ok, im off the soapbox now

There are many things that can be done relatively cheap, but something must get done and using students is part of that process. The same could be done with the radio broadcast for the ball games, the announcers, can travel with the team to the away games. I think our current announcer is weak, is it just me or there is no student that attend FAU interested in sports more or less baseball. If that is the case recruit someone from a broadcast school on an internship type of program - great way to get any student good experience if that is a chosen field for them.
