I think now that funding is starting to come in we should see things speed up in a hurry. Hopefully we can have something temporary for 2008 and a permanent structure by 2009 or 2010 at the very latest. No matter what happens, I think we will all be pleased with the final product. I don't see FAU building some half-ass stadium after all the time that has been spent going on with planning, etc. When it is all said and done I think that it will be worth the wait and FAU will be better off than FIU.
GO OWLS!!!

Well, it sounds like if everything pans out the way we expect we'll have a temporary stadium on campus in 2008 and 2009; in 2009 we'll be able to look over to the east during the game and see our actual stadium coming together.

What doesn't make sense to me is on the other thread, the temp stadium was turned down at a bid of $600,000, which was considered too much. I thought those were hard, fairly accurate estimates. Now I hear they are going through with the temp to have it in 2008. At what cost? What are they going to cut out to reduce the price? Initially the cost was around $500,000. Do they want to spend less than that?

Do they want to spend less than that? I think I painted the wrong picture before. My understanding is that they're more inclined to do it now because the BOT pretty much demanded it and the temp stadium field will be the same field used by the actual stadium... which helps to justify the cost a little bit.

I was on the FIU board and found this interview MC had with Sports Extra. Interesting thing is what his answer is to the question of the stadium and recruiting vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2039485270BOT and Admin need to see this and maybe they will understand the urgency of the stadium. The whole thing with Lockhart is an embarrassment for the program, but they will wait until they absolutely are forced into a decision - what leadership. What we are trying to do isn't anything new. As a matter of fact we are almost duplicating UCF's plan. Sun Sentinel has some pretty good clips on what they are up to. i believe with all of my Heart and Soul that when it is all said and done that thier "stadium" will pale in comparison to ours... not to mention that the football team will basically "live" in it...how cool is that?? i have not seen drawings of thiers, but ours will be complete before thiers will...all they have right now is some plans for staged expansion...but again, our finished product will be superior... the price tag is far greater.......

OK, Craig Angelos unloaded all the backlogged questions all at once. They all concern the stadium and Innovation Village.
I HOPE HE SHOWS THESE TO THE BOARD!!!!
July 5, 2007
Question from prowler: What happened at the May BOT meeting...? I heard the Innovation Village wasn't approved/voted on? A lot of us are really, really worried that the 'Village won't be up by 2008 and the stadium won't be ready by 2010. Is there anything we can do? Do you need feedback from students? Will construction begin in August? I feel bad about asking because I know it's a complicated project and you do great work. But school spirit is really starting to take off and we really need this. Thank you.
Question from J.T. Much confusion after the last BOT meeting. Many of us thought that the May meeting was going to finalize the stadium/innovative village plans. Come to find out the BOT agenda had this as an "update". No vote. According to what we've been hearing, there isn't any real plan to get this started. What happened in the six months since the November meeting? Where does this whole thing stand right now? Fill us in on what is going on. What needs to be done yet?
Response from Athletics Director Craig Angelos Sorry for the delay. As you know we did not vote on the stadium proposal at the May Board of Trustee meeting. It is now scheduled to be voted on at the September 17th Board of Trustees meeting. Things are picking up now with all parties involved and we hope that we will be able to play in that stadium by 2010. Thanks for your support and stay tuned.
Craig
Question from Joe First of all it is REALLY difficult to put a question and comment in a 1" x 2 1/4" text box.
I am an alumnus of FAU, class of 1980. I have asked several questions on here. Most have been answered. Some haven't. I don't even remember what all but one was. The last one I asked concerned the schedule of the Innovation Village and stadium. Everyone thought the May meeting was supposed to wrap it up.
There are quite a few impatient alumni, students and student athletes waiting for some information. I don't know what to do as an alumnus to show my dissatisfaction other than holding back my donation this year and forward.
The latest gossip is football recruits are considering leaving because promises have not been kept.
If writing a letter to the board or doing something will help the matter, let people know.
What is holding things up now and why weren't things finalized in May's meeting?
Response from Athletics Director Craig Angelos Joe: Thanks for your email. We were hoping that the May Board of Trustee meeting would bring a final approval. The project had to be extended but it the date for opening the on campus stadium remains on track for right now. It has been a frustrating process at times. There are a lot of moving parts in this project but it will happen one way or another. Also, the student athletes and prospects are still excited about the future here. No one is leaving the program or deciding to go elsewhere because of the stadium at this point. We have come a long way but have a long way to go. We need the support of all the donors and boosters that we can get as we try to get a foothold in this tough market and crate something special here. We will get there. Best Wishes Craig
Question from Mark Mr. Angelos, Great job so far. Can you give an update on the stadium? In April you stated: "We are making a lot of headway on finalizing the plans for Innovation Village. The goal is to present the final plan to the board for formal approvals at the May Trustee meeting. I am hoping that goes over well and occurs. Once that is done, then the project will begin in full force." At the May meeting, the final plan did not seem to happen. Where do we stand? Thank you.
Response from Athletics Director Craig Angelos Mark: Sorry for the delay. With regard to your question the stadium did not get voted upon at the May meeting and is now pushed back to September 17th, the next Board of Trustee meeting. It is our hope that at that time the final approval will be in place and hopefully the stadium will be ready to go for the 2010 season. Stay tuned and thanks for your support.
Craig
Question from Alejandro Is the school charging athletics fee in the tuition? I know that most schools do it. This would be another way to raise money for the football stadium. I know UM charges like $ 50.00. I believe FAU could charge at least $25 to $30 per student. I don't know, it is just an idea
Response from Athletics Director Craig Angelos Alejandro: I am sorry for the delay in my response. To answer your question FAU does charge an athletic fee of $13.70 per credit hour for all students attending FAU. We are limited by state statute as to how much we can charge for student fees but ours is up there pretty high. I do not anticipate an opportunity for another student fee in the near future. However, if the students wanted to get behind a project and push an increase for the stadium on their own that would be another matter.
Thanks for your question, Craig
Question from Mike Craig, It's disappointing reading the Sun-Sentinel and seeing $55M being spent to expand FIU's stadium. The paper has also been posting construction photos of the new UCF stadium. As an alum and season ticket holder I'm wondering if the Board of Trustees ever reads the newspaper? What can we do as individuals to get moving on our own stadium? Thanks.
Mike
Response from Athletic Director Craig Angelos Mike: Sorry for the delay in response to your email. I have seen all the positive press UCF and FIU have been getting regarding their stadium. My sincere belief is that our stadium will be better than either of those and we will get our deserved attention at that time. This process is moving pretty good now so that we should have some definite plans by this fall and we still plan on opening by 2010. Stay tuned, and thanks for your support.

I don't understand why the BOT can't hold an emergency meeting or special meeting for this. This is very important for numerous reasons and I think that after all the moving ahead and the next meeting the next meeting bull crap hold a meeting prior to September. These are stall tactics that the BOT has used for the last couple of years. I know that September is only a couple of months away but so was May and March and November etc. . I know the moon is probably not properly aligned with earth and the sun, but you can't tell me there are no provisions for emergency meetings or special meetings in the bylaws.

EXACTLY... i know it stinks to wait guys, but wouldnt we all rather wait for a Lamborghini, than settle for a Ford Taurus or Kia Sophia? RECRUITING IMPACT: UCF can tool down the recruiting trail in the Ford Taurus - nice, but average...FIU can putter along the pavement with the "coat of paint" over an old highschool stadium with sky boxes thrown on top Kia Sophia...and we can TOUR the talent highway with our full on, live on site, shops galore, misted sidewalks, sky sky box view of the Atlantic Ocean (probably the only one in America that you can see the ocean), FAU INNOVATION VILLAGE... I'll wait

I don't know diehard they have a pretty good start, what is it 5 years already. The BOT is like having a huge anchor around your neck. I'm sorry but they talk the talk but can't and haven't walk the walk.
