Well everyone wants to know what the marching band is up to, so I'll give the run down - The band was unable to attend the spring game because the director, Dr. Murray had a previous engagement with an honor band out of town. Also, there was a Wind Ensemble concert the same day that many members played in.
- Leadership auditions are Mon.(4/23) and guard and drum-line auditions are Sat.(4/28)
- The band is planning on attending the Fall Fan Fest as usual, it concludes our preseason training.
- As of now we'll be playing at all 5 home games, and two away games.(UF and FIU)
- I don't know if its this season or next, but music education majors will be required to take a year of marching band, adding to our numbers.
Thats all I can think of now. If you guys have any other question, leave them and I'll do what I can to answer.

Thanks for the update tuba. It was amazing last year the sounds you all were putting out. You guys really do a great job for such a young program and I'm sure we will all look forward to this coming fall.

Not really sure until preseason training starts. I'd be happy if we saw 75 members take the field for the MTSU game.

Last two seasons we were about 50-55.
The prerequisite for music ed majors is pretty standard for collegiate bands.

then 75 would be phenominal....what types of instrument increase(s) would you say primarily? Horns? Percussion? Both?

Well the Drum line has increased by a few members and should be a pretty nice line of 15. The guard also looks like its going to be pretty solid this season too. So in order to stay proportionate the the wind section would pic up the most members, and I'm sure things will work out that way

We're all getting pretty excited about the up coming season. Right now I'm trying to get a group together to play for Fan Fest. Its still iffy if we'll be there because its a week earlier then usual. After that we'll be starting our Preseason Training the week of the 20th. That will give us 2 weeks to teach basics, music, the pre-game, and the first half-time show. We where able to buy a couple of new brass instruments this year. We are still a little unsure on the numbers at this time. As for show themes this year, the only one I know for sure is an Earth, Wind, and Fire show. I think we may also do a few '80s and '70s funk shows. I hope to see you all at Fan Fest, I'll be the one with a red and blue shovel and maybe a brand new sousaphone around my neck.

I don't mean to be rude in the slightest but 75 is somewhat low. I once heard someone state that a general rule for marching band numbers was about 10% of a school's student population. In the case of FAU that would work out to roughly 250 or so members and for most schools that seems to be the case as well. I'm sure that as FAU develops those numbers are bound to skyrocket but I'm still rather curious about what the general feeling surrounding the band is. Is there an issue with numbers simply because the band is young? For that matter, how old is FAU's marching band exactly? I'd also be rather interested in the sound, can FAU compete against the sheer size of more established bands?
And yes, I'm a bit of a band nerd. Other USF posters seem to really care little about their own band even being in attendance but I just couldn't imagine the atmosphere being nearly the same without them.
That and I used to do the marching band thing a few years back in high school.
Again, no offense intended, just curious about the general feeling surrounding the marching owls.

You come onto another team's board and throw out disguised insults and expect to get away with it?
You clearly know squat about what it takes to create a college marching band from scratch at a school that is just developing a successful I-A program.
The people in this band bust their tails for hours a day to put on entertaining show - a new one for each home game, something some major bands do not do. They sound larger than they are and they are always the loudest cheering section and section most into the games. Without the band, FAU games would be much less attractive events.
As the on-campus population continues to soar, new dorms, shopping/entertainment and stadiums are built, the football and basketball teams gain greater notoriety, as the school funds away trips and recruiting performances at regional high school events, the band will grow into the hundreds and be regarded as one of FAU's highlights.

I don't mean to be rude in the slightest but maybe you should get an education at FAU because 10% would be 2600. I think you meant 1%...but who is counting. Just busting your chops, Brazen ;D
